Wars with American Involvement Brian Jerozal   The United States has become a symbol of freedom around the world and continues to strive to help maintain peace. Now is this something that the United States needs to do the quick answer is no but most of their effort is to prevent certain actions taking place beforehand. There have been a lot of altercations that without the United States helping things may have gone differently. For this argument, the United States should help out when it needs to but other countries can not only depend on the United States for help. The United States should be a policing power in the world because of such battles like the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Gulf War, Bosnian War, and the war in Afghanistan. The Spanish-American War occurred in 1898 when Cuba was struggling for their independence from Spain. This was a concern for the United States since they had many invested business in Cuba as well as citizens there. Before the United States would commit to anything they would send a battleship the USS Maine to the Havana harbor. On February 15th 1898 the USS Maine and would push the United States into war with Spain. Though they wanted to remain neutral with the conflict they were drawn in with the attack on the USS Maine. The resulting conflict lead to the Treaty of Paris which was signed on December 10th 1898 which Spain would renounce its claim over Cuba, ceded Guam and Puerto Rico to the United States and transfer the sovereignty over the Philippines (Trask, 2011). In 1917 the United States would enter World War I when they were trying to remain neutral again to stay out of the conflict. This was changed however when Germany would use its submarines to attack neutral ships. The Germans violated its pledge to suspend restricted submarine warfare in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean (Randolph, 2011). Germany would attack and kill passenger ships claiming they were carrying supplies to Allied nations. Because of this broken pledge and also that Germany was trying to get Mexico to join them in their cause prompted the United States to enter the war. The war would end with Germany surrendering in 1918 which would lead to the Treaty of Versailles. World War II started in 1939, while the United States would remain out of the war until 1941. The United states would remain neutral and only support the war with its resources to the Allies until the attack of Peral Harbor on December 7, 1941. The United States would have to face fascist aggression and the militaristic ideology of the Axis powers. The United States would provide the strong industry and manpower that would help turn the course of the war. With the end of World War II in 1945 it would lead to the creation of the United Nations which is supposed to maintain the peace and security of the world. The Gulf War began on August 2nd, 1990 and was in response to the invasion of Kuwait from Iraq. This war was made of mainly the United States and coalition forces that saw this incident as an unjust and uncalled for. When the invasion first started, fellow Arab powers called upon the United States to intervene (History.com, 2009). The coalition would raise 700,000 troops but 540,000 were United States military members and would lead the forces that would start the great air campaign and later push in with ground forces (Britannica, 2016). The war would end on February 28, 1991 and would lead to the Iraqi forces retreating Kuwait and also lead to the UN to pass Resolutions that would create a cease-fire and create a special commission to inspect Iraqs chemical and biological weapons if they had any. The Bosnia War which took place in 1992 and was the second most act of genocide since World War II with the Nazi regime. This war would kill up to 200,000 Muslim civialins and over two million would become refugees during the conflict. The United States would remain out of the conflict and help produce cease fire treaties which were later broke by the Bosnian Serbs. This would have led to the United States to take firm action and lead a massive bombing campaign against the Bosnia forces key military positions. Following this the United States would force the Serb leaders to talk peace and sign agreement that would end the conflict as well as have the leaders face war crimes (The History, 1999). The War in Afghanistan was driven by an attack on the United States by the Taliban that would bring a very long drawn out war. After the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City the United States would demand for the leader of the Taliban Osama Bin Laden be turned over for war crimes. It would not be until 2011 that the leader would be found and killed by American forces in Pakistan. After this the United States, would help by leaving behind a peacekeeping military force to help rebuild the country. This would be a slow withdrawal of troops after 2014 until 2016. This was a long drawn out style war which from experience I spent most of my career in being deployed to this country where we help try to bring a stable government. In conclusion, there have been many wars in United States history and some could have been avoided. This is not the view though of America when they feel something is unjust and unfair they will step up and stand for what they think is right. There may be views that the United States should leave other countries alone and worry about their own country. That the United States is a kind of bully that if you dont believe in their point of view then they will attack you. This is not the case the United States takes on the role of policing of the world not that it craves power or wants to show off its might. The United States is a super power and it needs to act like one by helping out those that need it or ask for help and will fight for the rights of all around the world. References History.com Staff. Popular Kids vs Unpopular Kids Essay

Everyone wants to be the popular kid in high school right? Not always true because popularity isn’t always as great as it looks. Belonging in the popular social group in high school can be a rough place for some individuals. In other words, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. While unpopular teens wish to join the other side, they should consider a few things before making a rash decision. While pondering through the negative effects of being popular, one that stands out is the type of people one would become involved with. We all desire to have truthful and caring friends. However, not every person in the popular click is truthful and caring. Before choosing a click, one should think about the typical characteristics that are associated with that click. Their intention might not be to bring out the best in a friend but the worst. One moment a teenager will be talking to another as friends, and then the next moment they’ve already started talking behind their backs about one another. Aren’t true friends supposed stand up for each other and stand by their side? Of course they are, however, it seems that the unpopular click gets along better because they treat their friends in the same way that they would want to be treated. Another aspect to be aware of when considering the popular click is peer pressure. Being popular has a tendency to come with standards. When one does not meet up to the expectations of the group, he or she is often subjected to peer pressure or humiliation. Many give into peer pressure to avoid being humiliated. Peer pressure typically results in someone acting irresponsible and foolish to prove some kind of loyalty like a gang. Consequences of such actions can involve disappointment from parents or even the police! Now why would a true friend try to jeopardize his or her friend’s future? In the end, we’re better off with just a couple of best friends rather than a group of two-faced popular friends who only care about themselves. Drama is another reason to consider before joining a popular click. Just imagine the sound of a thousand flies buzzing down the hallway with the latest gossip. In a matter of one day, one comment could be transformed into a rumor and spread through the whole school like wild fire. Drama inevitably corrupts most teens but popular teens thrive on it like an addiction, and sometimes create lies just to ruin one’s reputation. True friends, who might not be the most popular kids in school, but they would also never talk about a friend behind his or her back just to gain a higher reputation with the popular click (Article one). Staying out of drama can help one feel less stressed. Avoiding it can also stop individuals from getting involved in something they might regret. Gossip is difficult to find roaming among the unpopular group because they rarely feel the need to seek attention or hurt someone’s feelings by spreading rumors. They are already content and aware of how to treat individuals as they would like to be treated. When the weekend hits it is common for the popular click to go out and party. Everyone hears the stories of how drunk someone got or how the cops busted a few unfortunate teenagers. Even the best of teens get peer pressured into going to the weekend party and drinking. All of this obnoxious partying is not appropriate for a 15 to 18 year old teenager. Those â€Å"cool parties† consist of high school kids that don’t know other ways to have fun or just get drunk to escape their problems. Teens have to step up and realize that they are capable of having a good time and overcoming problems with better solutions. Overall, it will exponentially impact adulthood by being able to handle problems positively. In conclusion, before making an impulsive decision to conform to the popular click, teens should consider the reasons that were previously illustrated. The treatment of two-faced friends, spreading drama, and obnoxious parties are all valid reasons to just ignore the desire to be on the wrongfully admired click. It’s better to be happy with a few true friends who treat others in the manner of respect. Perhaps, we are also better off living in harmony with our beliefs instead of trying to compromise and conform. Being the same is boring! The popular group thrives on people who will conform. So let’s celebrate our unique skills to experience some variety and express our true individuality.

Reneging on a Promise Essay

Billy Tushoes recently received an offer to join the accounting firm of Tick and Check LLP. Billy would prefer to work for Foot and Balance LLP but has not received an offer from the firm the day before he must decide whether to accept the position at Tick and Check. Billy has a friend at Foot and Balance and is thinking about calling her to see if she can find out whether an offer is forthcoming. Question 1. Should Billy call his friend? Provide reasons why you think he should or should not. Is there any other action you suggest Billy take prior to deciding on the offer of Tick and Check? Why do you recommend that action? Billy should call his friend to ask how the recruiting process is going, but not specifically ask if he got the job offer or not. I believe that it will give him an unfair advantage than the other applicants because the other applicants are still waiting as well. I think that it’s reasonable to call to ask when he should be expecting a call from the Foot and Balance LLP, but not to ask if he got an offer from the firm. Part B Assume Billy calls his friend at Foot and Balance and she explains the delay is due to the recent merger of Vouch and Trace LLP with Foot and Balance. She tells Billy that the offer should be forthcoming. However, Billy gets nervous about the situation and decides to accept the offer of Tick and Check. A week later he receives a phone call from the partner at Foot and Balance who had promised to contact him about the firm’s offer. Billy is offered a position at Foot and Balance at the same salary as Tick and Check. He has one week to decide whether to accept that offer. Billy is not sure what to do. On one hand, he knows it’s wrong to accept an offer and then renege on it. On the other hand, Billy hasn’t signed a contract with Tick and Check and the offer with Foot and Balance is his clear preference because he has many friends at that firm. Questions 1. Do you think it is ever right to back out of a promise you gave to someone else? If so, under what circumstances? If not, why not? I don’t think breaking any promises is right to do but I think some promises are more important than others. I feel that people feel obligated to keep promises with certain people based on their importance. For example, a boss or a best friend, a person can feel obligated to keep their promises with those people instead of others who are not as significant. †¨Ã¢â‚¬ ¨2. Identify the stakeholders and their interests in this case. The partner at Foot and Balance is definitely a stakeholder in this case because he is interested in Billy and wants to hire him. Billy is a stakeholder because of his interest in Foot and Balance LLP. And Tick and Check LLP is a stakeholder because they are interested in Billy as well. 3. Evaluate the alternative courses of action for Billy using ethical reasoning. What should Billy do? Why? I believe that Billy should stick with Tick and Check LLP. Billy already knows that he it is wrong to renege on a commitment. Even though he did not physically sign a contract, he did verbally accepted the offer. It would be unprofessional of him to accept the offer and then take it back a day later just because he got an offer from Foot and Balance. A verbal commitment is just as significant as signing the contract.

Developmental Theories There are many theories on how a human develops. Most babies follow a certain pattern of development but the controversy is which person s developmental pattern of development is correct? Erik Erickson, Sigmund Freud and Jean Piaget s developmental theories are similar. Each of the theories goes through a human s development chronologically, giving a guideline of when certain developments happen. For example when a child is supposed to walk or when a child is going to speak. It is only a guideline and these theories are not supposed to be held too strictly.
